Philips brings light to Old Trafford
Philips has announced the use of its lighting to help make Old Trafford a brighter arena for football to take place in.
The stadium, home to Manchester United, brings the total proportion of Premier League grounds floodlit by Philips to 70 per cent.
Philips notes that the venue is the largest in the division, with a capacity of 75,000 seats.
A new lighting system was devised for the project, which means the lamps may reignite immediately following a failure.
Manchester United fans are told that “floodlight failure will be a thing of the past” compared with conventional bulbs which need to cool down for up to 20 minutes before being switched back on.
The news could keep them celebrating once the euphoria of being crowned as Premier League champions for the tenth time dies down.
Meanwhile, Philips recently reported that lighting sales helped it to achieve a robust performance over the first quarter of 2008.
Revenue increases of three per cent, along with a five per cent performance improvement in the firm’s healthcare business, were cited as a driving force behind the company’s success over the three-month period.
