Global beverages brand Coca-Cola has announced an extension of its sponsorship of the special Olympics.

Coca-Cola notes that it also works with the organisers of the Paralympics and the Olympic Games, with the Special Olympics sponsorship applying to both the summer and winter events.

A Special Olympics Sports Experience zone was established at the drinks firm’s headquarters to coincide with the announcement, giving visitors the chance to take part in some of the sports which feature in the Special Olympics.

Muhtar Kent, president and chief operating officer of The Coca-Cola Company, says: “It is appropriate in a year when we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our founding partnership with Special Olympics that we further strengthen the ties that bond our organisations.”

He adds that the pair share many of the same fundamental beliefs, including values of inclusion, optimism and acceptance.

Coca-Cola recently launched a new range of clothing under the Drink 2 Wear brand, with garments made from a blend of cotton and recycled drinks containers.
