Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) will be a crucial component of coverage of the 2012 London Olympic Games, according to BBC Sport.
Bell Gallop, head of interactive at BBC Sport said new hardware and embedded, on-demand video will also figure prominently in the way London 2012 will be broadcast online.
Speaking at the Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar: Beyond Beijing, Mr Gallop said that in terms of devices, the BBC wants to try new things and see what works on different platforms and IPTV will be “a big area to be looked at in the coming years”.
He added that there is a lot more to be done around the issue of on-demand and embedded video on the web for the Olympic Games and this could also be an opportunity to do a lot more with user generated content.
The Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar: Beyond Beijing took place at the Royal Society in October. Among the issues looked at were the impact and uptake of media technology employed at Beijing.
