It seems apparent from recent news articles and blog posts that the domain name industry is still in a period of education of domain name search engine optimisation. Some domainers embrace it; others do not even scratch the surface, relying of the strengths of type-in traffic domains, often putting extremely valuable domain names to waste by simply parking them with a sprinkling of sponsored links with absolutely no relevant content.
If domain name owners are to maximise the monetary potential of their domains, they need to put on their development hats and get uploading some serious content; content which is not just optimised for the search engines, but for the end users themselves; your visitors. It seems like I have mentioned a hundred times that the savvy online user of today’s Web 2.0 environment doesn’t care much for sponsored links and will more often than not avoid clicking through a page plastered with adsense. It is fact that domain parking revenues have vastly diminished over the last 12 months, so domainers need to get wise and start attracting a larger and more active audience with interactive content including, articles, videos, forums and formats where visitors can get involved and have their say.
Social network integration is also important for any domainers’ SEO strategy as the social networks of today such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Technorati offer audiences more vast than any other format of advertising media can, at a much lower cost…FREE. Using social networking to create a buzz about your domains means you can work on creating quality inbound links to your site via true word of mouth, boosting your relevancy within the search engines and feeding your visitors with engaging content will keep them returning. As far as the value of a domain name goes, long term traffic is crucial so returning visitors are your bread and butter. Make sure you look after them.
