The Nintendo Wii is the most looked for gadget online this Christmas, according to a new study.

Research by comScore found that there was a 64 per cent increase in the number of people searching for the games console during the Christmas period, totalling more than 1.9 million searches.

The other gadgets in the study - the iPod, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 - all saw growth in the Christmas period of around 30 per cent, except the iPhone which actually saw 18 per cent less.

“With Christmas now fast approaching, there has been a notable uptick in online searches for some of the hottest gadgets this season,” said Herve Le Jouan, managing director of comScore Europe.

“While Apple products such as the iPod and the iPhone are obviously high-interest products, it looks as though the Nintendo Wii will reign as the ‘hottest’ product on the market for the second consecutive year.”

Searches for the iPhone may be boosted however following news that a team of engineers have released a hack for the device which allows it to operate with any phone network, rather than just O2.
