UK ‘the most interested country in Twitter’
The country most interested in Twitter is the UK, according to research - something that may interest advertisers looking to use the platform as part of their campaigns.
Pingdom analysed Google search data for searches made so far in 2009 and found that UK and Ireland were the most interested in Twitter, while the top five were all English-speaking countries.
The US was in first place last year but now is the third most interested country, according to Pingdom, which admitted that if the research took into account absolute numbers alone then it is likely the US would be in first place as it has the largest base.
“What these results show us is that Twitter is gaining a lot of buzz outside the US, but predominantly in English-speaking countries (at least right now, the beginning of 2009),” Pingdom explained.
Twitter was originally established as a side project in 2006 but is now a real-time short messaging service that works on a number of devices.
