Apple unveils iMac update

4:17 pm Industry News and Developments

An updated version of the iMac has been announced by Apple, with the firm stressing the environmental friendliness of the device.

With “professional grade” aluminium used in the outer case and scratch-resistant glass also in evidence, Apple asserts that the durability and recyclability of the materials used makes the new iMac a suitable choice for eco-conscious computing enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, existing computer equipment - whether it be a PC or Mac - can be recycled for free by anyone purchasing the new iMac.

Following the purchase, energy usage is also promised as being among the most efficient possible from a computer system thanks to the iMac’s EnergyStar 4.0 certification.

However, Apple may wish to be careful before making any eco-friendly claims of the device in advertisements.

Environmentally focused publication BusinessGreen explains that the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority is currently launching an investigation into claims of ‘greenwashing’ among advertisers.

This is where a product is described in exaggerated terms with respect to its impact on the environment.
