Oprah ‘takes a lesson from Paris’

The same publicity techniques which turned around the fortunes of Paris Hilton are now being employed by representatives of Oprah Winfrey, it has been claimed.

CR Cataunya Ransom, co-founder of Mosnar Communications, claims that Oprah’s reputation took a turn for the worse after she expressed support for US politician Barack Obama.

However, she adds that no immediate action was taken by the talk show host’s public relations team to prevent the backlash from persisting.

“I guess they thought that the negative press surrounding Oprah and Senator Barack Obama would just go away,” Ms Ransom states.

The spokesperson suggests that socialite Hilton presents a fine example of how social media can help a brand to rebound from such a hit.

Based on the hotel heiress’ precedent, Ms Ransom undertook her own campaign of positive social media on behalf of Oprah - which was ultimately recognised in an article for news.com.au.

In a blog post on the topic, Ms Ransom comments that she is “tickled pink” by the coverage given to the story.
