Mirror redesigns website
The battle for search engine rankings is hotting up among the newspapers as a new look Mirror.co.uk is unveiled this week.
The redesign will bring the site’s homepage more inline with the style of the print addition.
Following similar moves by Mail Online, Telegraph.co.uk and Sun Online, the new website will focus on improving navigation and usability, report Media Guardian.
The new website is also likely to make use of search engine optimisation (SEO) to increase the number of unique visitors it receives to the site.
Digital marketing and SEO have become a growing concern among newspapers of late, as online news becomes increasingly popular as an online informational source.
Mail Online, leader among its UK competitors drawing in a total of 18.7 million unique hits every month has even appointed a new SEO manager, Simon Schnieders, previously of Yell.com.
Mirror.co.uk still draws the highest proportion of UK traffic compared to other newspaper websites, with 53 per cent.
However, this suggests that it is popular more because of its brand familiarity in the UK rather than its digital marketing strategy.
