‘Any and all’ keywords for raw traffic SEO

Businesses which want to use search engine optimisation (SEO) to simply attract “raw” traffic should use an “any and all” approach to keyword selection.

That’s the view of Rand Fishkin from SEOmozBlog, who explains that the use of SEO in this way has turned into a huge business.

He claimed that this form of SEO is best used when a website does not require any “actions or financial transactions” to make money - for instance, if it features a lots of adverts.

In terms of keywords, Mr Fishkin said that “the goal here isn’t typically to select specific keywords, but instead to create lots of high-quality content that naturally targets interesting/searched-for terms”.

He added: “Instead of singular optimisation on specific terms, the focus is on accessibility and best practices throughout the site to earn traffic through both high volume and long tail queries.”

Last month, Lee Odden from the Online Marketing Blog warned that blogs should not be used simply for SEO purposes - for the very reason that the content will begin to suffer in quality, reducing the pleasure for users surfing the site.
