The most searched for subjects in the UK are TV and games, according to research.

Richard Seymour, Hitwise UK client intelligence analyst, writing for the Hitwise Analyst blog, reveals some of his research that shows TV largest subject area with 14.2 per cent of all non-branded searches, while games accounted for 13.9 per cent.

Among the other top five subjects are travel, finance and sport, according to the study, which took out all non-branded terms and gave them a subject area.

For the 12 weeks ending January 3rd, the top TV terms included “x factor”, “strictly come dancing” and “tv listings”.

As for the top games terms, “free online games”, “car games” and “cooking games” were some of the most searched phrases.

For travel, the term “train times” topped the subject area, while “cheap flights” also made an appearance in the top ten.

Earlier this month, Hitwise revealed Facebook is the most searched-for brand by UK internet users.
