Small businesses believe the internet will help them fight the recession, research has shown.

An Easynet Connect survey of 255 IT managers from companies with ten to 250 employees revealed 45 per cent of small businesses believe the internet will be an important asset in helping them get through and prosper during the recession.

One in five of the respondents said the internet will be the most important tool in helping small enterprises beat the recession.

Meanwhile, 74 per cent of small businesses claimed they will use the web to expand their company profile and 52 per cent asserting the internet would place them on a level playing field with bigger companies.

“The internet is one of the most powerful tools for companies of all shapes and sizes,” said Timothy Francis, head of IT and online marketing at derivatives trader Blue Index.

A code of good practice for online behavioural advertising has recently been published by the Internet Advertising Bureau and has received support from many parts of the UK’s online advertising industry.
