Marketers to spend on social media

Marketing companies will be focusing a large amount of their budgets on social media next year, new research has indicated.

According to a survey by Junta42, an online vendor-matching service, 68 per cent of marketing professionals will be putting the technology at the top of their spending list.

Email and enewsletters also scored highly with 60 per cent, along with blogs on 56 per cent.

Just over half (51 per cent) said that they would be investing in online video.

“More and more marketing professionals now realise that tomorrow’s marketing is all about developing a conversation with customers,” said Junta42 founder Joe Pulizzi.

“Without valuable, relevant and compelling content, that’s pretty much impossible. The numbers show that.”

While blogs appear to be popular with marketers, one expert has warned that they should not be used for search engine optimisation purposes alone.

Lee Odden wrote on Top Rank Blog that blogs that are only used for this purpose will fail for a number of reasons, including the fact that they will not be planned properly.
