Twitter proving a hitter in the UK
Since the start of 2009, UK internet visits to Twitter have increased six-fold, it has been revealed.
Hitwise figures show that visits to Twitter from the UK have risen 32-fold over the past 12 months.
For the week ending April 4th this year, Twitter was the 50th most visited website in the UK - something that may excite those looking to use the site to show off their stuff.
Research director at Hitwise UK Robin Goad reported that in the same week “Twitter received more UK internet visits than the Daily Mail, RightMove, MSN UK Search, Directgov and all retail websites with the exception of eBay, Amazon UK, Play.com and Argos”.
Mr Goad added that it is likely Twitter is actually attracting more traffic than the statistics say as they do not include visitors using mobile phones or third-party applications.
Gartner recently revealed four ways in which businesses were using the social networking site, one of which was for direct marketing and public relations.
