200 millionth user joins Facebook
This week social networking website Facebook expects to welcome its 200 millionth active user, according to the founder of the site.
Mark Zuckerberg commented that having the 200 millionth user join was a “really good start”, claiming that the company is working hard to establish a service that anyone can use everywhere.
“There are still many more people and groups in the world whose voices we want to connect with everyone who wants to hear them,” he commented, asserting that Facebook is”working to bring the power of sharing” to all across the globe.
Mr Zuckerberg also revealed that Facebook has worked with 16 charitable and advocacy organisations to offer presents from the gift shop.
Each gift represents one of the bodies involved, which will get between 90 to 95 per cent of the cost of the gift, he added.
Managing director of New Media Intelligence Tom Houghton said recently that it is up for discussion as to whether social networking sites can translate high traffic levels into commercial success.
